Terms of Service
NotateMate · Last updated 13 September 2026
NotateMate is operated by Sberry LLC ("we", "us"). By using the app you agree to what follows. It is written to be read, not to be impenetrable.
Using the app
You may use NotateMate to record your own games and games you have permission to record. You must be 13 or older to create an account; the app itself can be used at any age, because recording works without one.
Don't use the app to break the law, and don't try to interfere with the service or with other people's use of it — including attempting to reach data that isn't yours.
Recording other people
The camera is pointed at a board, not at people, and no images leave your device. Even so, tournaments and clubs have their own rules about phones and recording. Following those rules is your responsibility, not ours.
Broadcasting
When you broadcast a game, the player names you enter and the moves as they are played become visible to anyone watching. A public broadcast is listed for anyone to find; a link-only broadcast is unlisted, which means anyone holding the link can watch it.
Only broadcast names you have the right to publish. If you are recording someone else's game — a child's, a club member's — get their agreement, or a parent's, before putting their name in front of an audience.
Content we don't allow
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. A broadcast is public, and the names you type into one are published to everyone watching, so the small amount of text NotateMate lets you publish has to stay clean.
Don't publish, as a player name, an event name or anything else visible to people watching:
- abuse, harassment, threats or content directed at someone to demean them
- hate speech, or content attacking people for who they are
- sexual, obscene or graphically violent content
- impersonation of another person or organisation
- anything unlawful, or content that isn't yours to publish
Reporting. Every broadcast carries a Report action — the … menu on a broadcast in the app, or the Report button on the broadcast itself. Reports reach us directly. We review every one and act on it within 24 hours, which means removing the broadcast, ending it while it is running, or removing the account behind it.
Blocking. You can block a broadcaster from the same menu, without reporting them and without telling them. Blocking hides everything from that person on your device immediately, and keeps it hidden.
We may end any broadcast, and close any account, that breaks the rules above. An account removed for abuse does not come back, and we don't owe a refund for one. You can also write to us at support@notatemate.com about anything you have seen.
Your games belong to you
You keep ownership of the games you record. By broadcasting one, you allow us to transmit it to the people watching — that is all the permission we take, and only for as long as it takes to do it.
Accounts
Keep your sign-in details to yourself; what happens under your account is your responsibility. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Manage Account → Delete Account. We may close an account that is being used to break these terms.
Plans
Games you have already recorded stay yours whatever plan you are on, and whatever plan you move to later.
- Free — $0, no account needed. Three recorded games in each calendar month. The count resets at the start of the next month, on the 1st, whichever day of the month you recorded on.
- Scoresheet — $88.99, paid once. Unlimited recording. Not a subscription: there is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
- Pro — $6.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Unlimited recording, plus broadcasting your games live and keeping them on all your devices. Pro needs an account; Scoresheet and the free plan do not.
Pro includes everything Scoresheet does, so if you are choosing between them, pick one — buying both gains you nothing extra.
If you already own Scoresheet and want Pro's broadcasting and sync, Pro is a separate purchase at its full price: the App Store cannot put what you paid for Scoresheet towards a subscription. Scoresheet stays yours permanently, though, so cancelling Pro later leaves you with unlimited recording rather than dropping you back to three games a month.
Subscriptions, renewal and cancellation
Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. New subscribers get a 14-day free trial; nothing is charged during it.
- Payment is taken by the App Store when the trial ends, and again at the start of each renewal period.
- A renewal period runs from the day you subscribed, not from the first of the month: subscribe on the 15th and you are billed on the 15th. If you started with a free trial, the first period begins on the day the trial ends. This is not the same clock as the free plan's monthly allowance, which always resets on the 1st.
- It renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can cancel at any time, including during the trial, in your Apple Account's subscription settings — in the app, Profile → Plan → Manage subscription goes straight there. Cancelling stops the next payment; the plan stays active until the period you have paid for ends.
- If you subscribe before a free trial has finished, the unused part of the trial is forfeited.
Prices, payment and refunds
Purchases are handled by the App Store, not by us, and we never see your card details. Prices are shown in US dollars in these terms; what you are charged is set by the App Store in your own currency and region, and is what the purchase screen shows before you confirm.
Prices may change. Apple will not charge a subscriber more without asking first, and a price change never applies to a period you have already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own rules, not by us — we cannot issue one, though we would rather hear from you at support@notatemate.com first.
What we don't promise
Move recognition is very good and is not perfect. It can misread a piece, miss a move, or refuse to read a position — the app is built to tell you when that happens rather than record something wrong in silence. Check the notation before you rely on it for anything that matters, such as a tournament result or a dispute.
The app is provided as it is. We don't promise it will be available without interruption, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from using it — including a game that was recorded incorrectly or not at all.
Changes
These terms may change. If a change matters to you, we will update this page and the date at the top. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new version.
